And so it begins. . .

Beginnings are scary things.  Whether it's the beginning of a new school year,  a new job, a new relationship, a blog :), or a lifestyle change, beginnings can be intimidating.  Why is that?  Why are we, as human beings, so afraid of change?
Change is scary because sometimes we don't want to change.  We become comfortable and our situation becomes manageable.  We refuse to believe that anything can make us more satisfied/happier/more successful/healthier/etc. . . than we are now.

But we are not scared of change itself, but of the unknown. And the scary thing is that no matter how much knowledge we gain, there will always be unknowns.  Think about it this way.  There is only so much I can learn from books, online posts, doctors, moms, etc. . . about childbirth.  I will never know what childbirth is really like until I actually experience that.

But do you want to know what the beautiful part of the unknown is? Even though the unknown is scary, there is someone who knows exactly what the unknown will bring.  He knows exactly what your circumstance is and how to lead you through it.  He knows that despite your protests, change (if it is a good one) will make you better than you ever have been. He knows exactly how it feels when you mess up and ruin that new beginning. He knows exactly how to help you get back on track and start over anew.

Jesus Christ is not afraid of beginnings.  Jesus Christ is not afraid of change.  And He will be there every step of the way.

That does not mean that there will be no 'unknowns'.  That doesn't mean that that we wont have to take a few steps in the dark.  But it does mean that we have someone that understands and will lead us through that change.  And if we put forth the effort, He will help us progress through that change.

Change is not by chance.  Change is God's way of making us better.

C.S. Lewis once wrote, “Imagine yourself as a living house. God comes in to rebuild that house. At first, perhaps, you can understand what He is doing. He is getting the drains right and stopping the leaks in the roof and so on: you knew those jobs needed doing and so you are not surprised. But presently he starts knocking the house about in a way that hurts abominably and does not seem to make sense. What on earth is He up to? The explanation is that He is building quite a different house from the one you thought of—throwing out a new wing here, putting on an extra floor there, running up towers, making courtyards. You thought you were going to be made into a decent little cottage: but He is building a palace” (C. S. Lewis, Mere Christianity, New York: MacMillan Co., 1960, p. 160).

Change is worth it.  Do not be afraid of change, because we do not change alone.

  1. So true, and a lesson I have had to learn over and over. I think it's a lesson we learn throughout our lives, and it's never really mastered completely, because change is the only constant, and the same kind of change never happens twice. :) Thank you for the insight and inspiration today!!! Sure love ya!
